Dallas Mavericks' run in 2011 is one I binge-watched during the height of the pandemic, and something I appreciate more despite not a fan as years went on. The Mavs dethroned the experienced and talent-laden champs, so it is fitting they won it all. The Mavs could be more deeper if not for Caron Butler's injury, but somewhat a blessing in disguise. Because of this surprise run, their free agents were sought after. It is shame Mark Cuban, who was known spending lavishly regardless of salary cap on his early years as the owner, choked up and failed to extend the contracts of Tyson Chandler, DeShawn Stevenson, and Butler. Chandler and Stevenson were missed a lot the next year, swept by the same Thunder they beat in 2011 WCF.

Robinson was in decline after his foot and back injuries in 96 when he only played a few games all season (which is how the Spurs got the #1 draft of Duncan in the first place), he was never quite the same after that. Similar to Larry Bird after he hurt his back. But like Bird, Robinson simply went from Elite to merely great and was a very efficient contributor until age and injuries continued to wear him down his last couple seasons. A lot of people forget that most NBA stars do maybe 1 or 2 years in college before going pro. Not only did both Robinson and Duncan do 4, but Robinson did an additional 2 years in the Navy, so he was already much older as a rookie than most, and he had to relearn how to play after the 2 year break which naturally shortened his peak years. Duncan is great because of his longevity and his consistent greatness over that time. Overall this career long production might give Duncan the edge in greatness over Robinson. But I'd argue peak Robinson was a better player than peak Duncan, although that was short lived in the first half of the 90s, particularly his MVP season in 94. Although Duncan has finals MVP awards and Robinson doesn't (again Robinson was past his prime already when he finally made it), Robinson has a DPOY, a scoring title, a most rebounds title, a most blocks title, a quadruple double, and a 71 point game which Duncan can't touch.

Stock was an ABSOLUTE MONSTER. TB12 like instincts in an NBA point guard body. Unflappable when it mattered most and always chose the right play over the best one.

I think people forget that lakers already made it to 3 finals and until the heat, warriors, Cavs, getting to 4 straight finals was unheard of in a long time.
